To organize your camping gear at home keep camping gear in labeled boxes. Keep your sleeping bags in laundry bags and not hung up to keep them fluffy. Dry tents out before putting them in storage. Use shelves to stack gear. Keep frequently used gear that you need with easy access on lower levels while less frequently used gear is at the top.

If you’re like me, you love camping but despise the mess storing gear can create.

Never fear, though!

There are ways to organize your camping gear so that everything has its place and is easy to find when you need it.

In this post, I’ll share some tips on how to do just that.

So read on for ways to get your camping gear organized and make packing up a breeze!

Install Shelving

Any serious camper knows that having the right gear is essential for a successful trip.

From tents and sleeping bags to stoves and lanterns, there is a lot to keep track of.

Unfortunately, all that gear can quickly become a cluttered mess.

One way to keep your camping gear organized is to install shelving in your garage or storage shed.

Shelving provides a place to store everything from coolers and duffel bags to fishing poles and hiking boots.

In addition, shelving can help to protect your gear from being damaged by moisture or pests.

By taking the time to install shelving, you can ensure that your camping gear is always ready for action.

Store Sleeping Bags In Laundry Bags

Don’t store wet or damp sleeping bags either; they can mildew in storage as well.

When you get home from a camping trip, open up your sleeping bags and lay them out to air out and dry just as you do with your tents.

If you don’t have time to let them air dry right away, throw them in the dryer on low heat for 10 minutes or so to help speed up the process.

Next, take your sleeping bags out of their stuff sacks and place them into laundry bags.

Laundry bags allow sleeping bags to air out, avoid having their insulation become compressed, and thus will keep you warm when you need them.

Do not hang your bags. You can store your sleeping pad or air mattress in their own box.

Air and Dry Out Your Tents Before Storage

Air out and dry your tents before storing them.

Wet or damp tents can mildew in storage, ruining them.

When you get home from a camping trip, pull your tents out of the stuff sacks and carry them outside.

If it’s a nice day, lay them out in the sun for an hour or two to air out and dry.

If it’s not sunny, spread them in a well-ventilated room inside your house or garage.

Once they’re dry, fold them loosely and put them back in their stuff sacks.

Store Gear In Labeled Plastic Boxes

Labeling your storage boxes will help you keep everything organized and easy to find.

You can use permanent markers or stickers to label the boxes with the contents.

For example, you could label one box “Tent,” another “Sleeping Bag,” and a third “Cooking Gear.”

This will help you remember where everything is and make it easy to find what you need.

Additionally, it is important to store your gear in a dry, protected place.

A garage or shed is a good option, but make sure to keep the boxes off the ground to prevent moisture damage.

With a little bit of organization, you can make sure your camping trips are enjoyable and stress-free.

Get Rid Of Unnecessary And Duplicate Gear

One of the reasons that organizing camping gear may become challenging is if you tend to pack more than one of some things that are not necessary.

For instance, do you need more than one stove?

Probably not, so why not cull it and have a lighter pack that makes movements easier?

It is much better to carry a pack of fewer items that are multipurpose than it is to carry a heavy pack with too many things.

Keep First Aid And Other Emergency Supplies In One Bin

When preparing for a camping trip, it is important to think about what supplies you will need in case of an emergency.

First aid kits are a necessity, of course, but you should also consider other items such as bear spray.

By keeping all of your emergency supplies in one bin, you can be sure that you will always have them within reach in case of an emergency.

In addition, by storing your camping gear in one place, you can prevent it from getting lost or mixed up with other items.

When packing for a camping trip, be sure to keep your first aid and other emergency supplies in one bin so that you can be prepared for anything.

Store Food In Containers With Tight Lids

Camping is a great way to enjoy the outdoors, but it requires some careful planning to ensure that everything goes smoothly. One important consideration is how to store food. To keep insects and animals out of your food, be sure to use containers with tight-fitting lids. If you’re camping in an area with bears, you’ll need to take extra precautions to keep your food safe. An airtight container stored in a bear-proof locker is the best option.

Organize Your Gear By Frequency Of Use

Storing camping gear can be a challenge, especially if you don’t have a lot of space.

One way to make the most of your storage space is to organize it according to the frequency of use.

Items that you use regularly, such as sleeping bags and tents, should be easily accessible and stored in a place where they won’t get damaged.

Less frequently used items, such as specialized tools like snow shoes can be stored in less convenient locations.

This will help you to save space and keep your camping gear organized so that you can find what you need when you need it.

Label Your Gear Storage Boxes

Storing your camping gear can be a daunting task. You want to make sure that everything is stored properly so that it stays in good condition and is easy to find when you need it. One way to do this is to label your storage boxes and bins. This will help you keep track of what is in each box and where it is located. Make sure to label each box with the contents and the date that you stored the items.

In addition, be sure to store your camping gear in a dry, dark place so that it does not become damaged by moisture or sunlight.

With a little bit of organization, you can ensure that your camping gear is always ready for action.

Camping gear can be expensive.

However, one of the great things about camping gear is that if you take care of it, it will last many years. This is why it’s important to learn how to properly store your gear.

And when you organize your gear into labeled storage bins it is much easier to find what you need when you are ready to hit the road.

Stop avoiding camping because you can’t find your camping gear because it’s a disorganized mess.

Or worse, you find expensive gear ruined because it’s been damaged by improper storage.

The biggest mistakes I see in storing camping gear are:

Mistake 1 - Not storing gear in labeled bins.

If you don’t label your gear, then you will have a hard time finding what you need when you are ready to go camping.

Mistake 2 - Keeping sleeping bags in stuff sacks.

I know sleeping bags can be bulky when they are not stored in their stuff sacks. However, the problem is that if a sleeping bag is stored in a stuff sack too long, it’s unable to fluff back up and keep you warm in your tent.

Mistake 3 - Not drying out their tents before storage.

Never put a tent away wet. A wet tent can develop mildew and start to rot.

Camping is my favorite way to relax and enjoy time with friends and family. There’s nothing better than chatting by the campfire or sleeping to the sounds of the coyote howling.

But you need equipment like sleeping bags, tents, and camping stoves to get the most out of your time in Mother Nature.

Thus it’s important to store your gear properly.

Camping gear can be expensive, so it’s important to take care of it and store it properly.

By following the tips in this article, you can make sure that your camping gear is always ready for action.

And when you organize your gear into labeled storage bins, it is much easier to find what you need when you are ready to go camping.
